Although Common Crossbill is obviously the most likely candidate, it might be worth drawing people’s attention to the fact that there is quite an influx of Parrot Crossbills in the South East at the moment with birds as far east and inland as Berkshire at least. Worth keeping in mind for anyone observing crossbills in the county.

Male crossbill seen near Alfred’s Tower, just west of the Somerset/Wiltshire border. It was calling to others which were heard but not seen.
