Looks very much like one of several different colour-forms of Swedish Duck - a fairly common domestic duck, not a wild bird.

Welcome the the forums.

My guess would be that it is a common /hybrid duck - we have some on Cheddar reservoir that look like that and hang out all year around with the Mallards (but are larger than mallards).

Seen this afternoon at Chew Valley Lake from the road near Herons Green Bay. It looked very black on site in the dull light, but having tweaked the photo a little it appears more brown.
