Another impressive count: on Sunday 3rd Dec, around 1000 Golden Plover in fields across the road from the Greylake car park. Plus 1 Dunlin (!) and 5000 Lapwing.
I estimated 1600 Wigeon from Noah’s hide today (excellent new hide by the way), also 20 Pintail,

Fairly quick look at Ham Wall today…
1 Dunlin and 3 Ruff 2VP, plenty of Wigeon
This evening on Ham Wall, all 2VP: 1 Pec Sand, 1 Ruff, 1 Green Sand, 6 Blackwit, 8 Snipe, small numbers each of Lapwing and Teal.
And on Meare Heath: 1 Green Sand and 14 Blackwit (the back right reed edge looking plum for a Spotted Crake I reckon).
Still no Garganey…
Lastly, the Osprey looking at home on Noah’s.
Ham Wall this am: 1 Green Sand, 70+ Blackwit (many juv), small numbers each of Swift, Teal and Lapwing.
Pied Fly reported at the east end apparently and I couldn’t find yesterday’s reported Garganey…
Difficult viewing at the mo with so much vegetation.
A visit yesterday morning with the lively Camp Avalon crew: on Ham Wall, 1 Green Sand, 1 Common Tern, 12+ Blackwit
Ham Wall today: 2 Green Sand and 17 Blackwit
Meare Heath: 9 Blackwit and 80 Lapwing
Ham Wall this pm
23 Hobby in the air together at one point, hard to know site total
4 Garganey
Hundreds of Swifts
Shapwick side
A few more Hobby
The Wood Sand was back late pm, c30 Blackwit
5 Cattle Egret at 4pm, then flew off northish
A fairly hasty visit this am:
1 Red Kite over Ham Wall at 11am drifted off west, 2 Snipe and 2 Blackwit 2VP.
Hobby - approx 6 Ham Wall and 4 Shapwick. Plenty of Swifts.
Remarkably quiet on MH Scrape, no notable migrants, which is notable! Perhaps something had booted everything before I arrived…
Ham Wall this morning (24th) - 3 Hobby south of Waltons with a Cuckoo calling in the same area; 2 drake Garganey and a single Glossy Ibis near VP2; a couple of Swifts with large numbers of Sand Martins over the reed beds plus warblers singing everywhere, including Garden Warbler just past the railway bridge. The only waders were 2 Snipe at VP2.
Sunday 23rd
6 Whimbrel flew north from Noah’s early morning, 1 Swift there late afternoon, otherwise on MHS, c50 Blackwit, 3 Ringed Plover, 1 Dunlin and the 11 Cattle Egrets turned up mid-afternoon.
Ham Wall, 2 drake Garganey, 3 Hobby, 1 Snipe. Teal numbers down from c60 to something like 20.
Plenty of Sand Martins and single Cuckoos on both sides.
I’ll stop mentioning ibis unless something notable happens (a flock of 20 would be good!). Otherwise, superb birding on the Levels at the mo, the place dripping with warblers, herons, egrets, Beardies, harriers, etc etc etc.
This evening:
As already reported, on Meare Heath, 1 Ruff again, 1 Greenshank, and the Blackwit flock.
Also 5 Whimbrel on Noah’s.
1 Swift Ham Wall 1VP (loads of Sand Martins).
At 2VP, 1 Hobby, 2 G Ibis, 1 Greenshank, 5 Snipe, 2 drake Garganey.
Just noticed 4 ibis reported at HW on birdguides earlier today… I can believe it, I wondered if I’d seen 3.
Ham Wall this morning…
2VP - 1 G Ibis, 3 drake Garganey
Tor hide - 1 G Ibis
Meare Heath
1 Ruff, 1 Ringed Plover, 3 LRP, 1 Cuckoo over
Noah’s
3 Whimbrel (flew off north), 1 House Martin in with many Sands
1 Common Sand, 1 G Ibis and 1 drake Garganey on Ham Wall yesterday, 2VP.
What I think was a dog Otter (definitely an Otter!) on Meare Heath scrape mid-afternoon and I’m told it’s making regular appearances there.
Yellow Wag heard but not seen at Greylake this morning, plus Sedge Warbler
3 drake and 1 duck Garagney on Ham Wall this evening, 2VP, plus a few Reed Warblers singing.
1 drake Garganey on Meare Heath.
