A couple of swifts feeding around Tor View Hide at Ham Wall this evening
I’m beginning to feel embarrassed about this. 10 (!) swifts seen over central Frome around 7pm last evening. That time of evening is a good time, so perhaps these are birds on passage.
Also, heard my first Nuthatch for 5 years this morning. 5 or 6 years ago, I ringed several Nuthatches each year here, but they seem to have completely disappeared, though still living within a couple of miles. Anyone else noticed this happening with their Nuthatches??
And still swifts over central Frome most of the day today 26th, with 4max. seen. Do they have no sense of timing? Or perhaps think they are house martins!?!
Thats amazing, and very interesting Dan.I would love another three weeks of them, but nothing since the sixth here.

5 X swifts over Williton 1900hrs 22-08-2017 with house martins
And, to my delight, another 5 swifts over central Frome this morning. Perhaps they are enjoying this weather??? Thanks Alick, for the information about them being single-brooded.
1 Swift flying North West over Stockmoor this afternoon.
Two Swifts were over Burtle yesterday , Aug 20th and two over Catcott Fen on the 19th.
No swifts in the last 2 days, but 3 over central Frome may prove to be my last of the summer. Autumn on its way!
Four swifts over Vivary Park, Taunton late this afternoon..
‘Or might it have been a good breeding season, with good numbers of second brood juveniles making up most of these numbers?’
Dan: Unlike Hirundines, swifts are single-brooded.
Stacks of swifts in mixed flock over maize fields just south of Taunton yesterday, Monday.
Pair of Hobbies joined our local swallows but they were only “looking” and were seen off.
And 15+ swifts over central Frome this morning, with 20+ around on Sunday morning, and good numbers every day last week. Perhaps reports of the disappearance of swifts are ‘greatly exaggerated’? Or might it have been a good breeding season, with good numbers of second brood juveniles making up most of these numbers?
2 Swifts over Wyndham Park , Yeovil 7pm yesterday, Sunday 13th.
20+ swifts above central Frome this morning around 8.30am. Though only 3 seen yesterday, so perhaps these were passing through ahead of the lunchtime weather??
