Eureka moment, I think its a Nuthatch, you can still make out the dark primaries and grey back with the reddish breast feathers.
Size here is key remembering a male Sparrowhawk is only 28 cm just twice the size of a Nuthatch at 14 cm, probably snatched from a garden bird feeder?
Hello Roger, beginning to regret suggesting you post a photo!
BWP certainly lists Sparrowhawk as prey item for other Sparrowhawks, in this instance though prey is noticeably smaller perhaps Redwing sized bird.
Too small I think for a domestic bird?
But colouring, grey(ish?) with with reddish/brown breast (perhaps?) - will be interested to see if anyone else has an idea…............
Photo is now in the Gallery.
Up loaded to gallery, Nigel.
Roger, if you can’t link it to a URL address, you could upload it to the photo gallery on this site. I’ll then place it in the Gallery on a temporary basis.
hello roger, can you post the photo? - legs should be yellow, could be blood on the legs?
Hi Nigel, sorry for delay. Can’t seem to post pictures.
Will not see friend until no week but will get photo and send on to you.

A friend has shown me a picture of a Sparrowhawk with prey on his fence. No head is visible but breast and wing feathers look like Sparrowhawk although leg is pink. Do Sparrowhawks prey on other Sparrowhawks?
