Still there today 11/02, less than 400 now but still a good size flock.
I photographed the Linnets today and in one photo of most of the birds in flight I counted 375 birds. It’s possible that there are up to 400 birds here and certainly not far short.
They are covering the area bounded by the canal to the south and the new houses to the north between the Bathpool bridge and Hyde Lane bridge.
A large flock of linnets, 200+, has taken up residence just downstream of Bathpool bridge. Walk along the towpath under the road bridge (i.e. towards Creech St Michael), and stop 100-200m before the next bridge (Hyde Lane). They have been in the field opposite on Saturday afternoon, Sunday afternoon and shortly after midday today (Tues). They sometimes gather in the ash trees above the towpath. They are completely invisible on the ground, but in text-book linnet fashion the flock periodically takes off and flies around the field.
Sorry for the late post, but with luck they’ll be there for a while longer.
