Eighth visit to Thorney Lakes this morning again revealed no Nightingales at this site. Yet another iconic species to cross off the list of breeding species for this parish (Muchelney), which includes Tree Sparrow, Little Owl, Lapwing, Snipe, Yellowhammer, LS Woodpecker, Curlew?, House Martin, Swift etc, etc in the last 40 years. If it goes on like this we will have to just go to Reserves or the Zoo to see birds!
Just Merryfield/Ilton left now as the only regular breeding site for Nightingales in Somerset, which has yet to be checked this spring.
