Following a report yesterday that over 500 avocets were now regularly to be found on the mudbank below and opposite the Clyce, took a walk out there this morning. As I approached, a kingfisher flew upstream from the near bank. Don’t often see them on the Parrett itself. There was no single large flock of avocet, but at least 50 were ‘scoped, scattered widely over the mudbank along with numerous wigeon, teal, and a few curlew, shovellers, mallard and redshanks.
