As I left Chard reservoir today, pleased to have seen 3 Lapwings which are not so common here, sat in the road at Oaklands Avenue was a small bird which initially I took to be a robin by shape and location. I flushed it with the car and it flew onto a garden wall, revealing itself to be an adult male wheatear.
There are only 2 records of wheatear at the Reservoir, but this one unfortunately doesn’t count as it was just outside the area.
