3rd time lucky with Savi’s Warbler from car park hide at Catcott Lows y’day (21-June). I have difficulty hearing it, but Kay can.
It suddenly appeared in my camera frame on top of a seeding Bulrush, looking from the hide to a large clump of Bulrush 30m right of the pumping shed.

Thanks Mike, that clears up “in the trees” then!

The metal gate is “in the trees”, bird is somewhat closer. Two Sundays ago a gropper was apparently in the bush just beyond the wooden gate

Just a thought: Tim said “Seen briefly to the left of the hide just to the right of the metal gate in the trees”
Savi’s is known for its reed-bed habitation, where it sings from a reed top. River Warbler likes to sing from small trees. Savi’s song is an insect like continual buzzing, while River’s song is much slower the indvidual buzzing notes can be heard.

Tried for it y’day evening (15th) from 19:40 until 21:00 when very windy and have to confess heard nothing with my old hearing. Similar with others, except one who was much younger, but had no previous experience with Savi’s. He said he could hear a buzzing sound on two occasions at about 20:15, but no pick-up on anothers Merlin phone.

The bird was relatively loud at times, considering it was so far away! Seen briefly to the left of the hide just to the right of the metal gate in the trees.

Per BirdGuides: Singing male still, heard and briefly seen from The Lows Hide (car park hide) at Catcott Lows y’day (14th) at 21:01hrs. Previously heard y’day at 19:42hrs and also heard the evening of the 13th at 19:17hrs. I’ve not tried yet, but will give it a go this evening.
