1 over fields N of Steart village, heading south with c. 30 Swallows and 4 House Martins; my latest ever here since 2000.
And a single Swift sauntering northwards, amongst House Martins, over Chipstable this morning (750am, 6Sep25; making it the latest I’ve seen here by 5 days, in the last 26 years).
Like some of us, trying to pretend summer is still here…
Just had a group of three Swift over the house !
Four Swifts flying around Chipstable today, still. I tend to think our Swifts leave the village early each year, so I imagine a good few others are still around Somerset…
I had a single swift today near Utrecht Holland. Out of area I know, but I’m an old Somerset boy and was quite chuffed!
Surprised to see several Swifts at The Newt near Bruton yesterday
After 10 days with no sightings there were 4 Swifts low over my house in Butleigh yesterday afternoon feasting on a huge eruption of flying ants
Had a walk down to Fishing ponds in Somerton this.evening. 2 smart LBB Gulls; Moorhens, Grey Heron Kingfisher(H) Green Woody (H) CC (H) River Cary very overgrown. Group of 4 late Swifts over housing on walk back.
Screaming squadron over the house (Ilminster) though only heard not counted.
Be interesting to see if it’s a group hanging around or passing through.
Otherwise, haven’t seen, or heard, any for about a week.
Still got a couple of pairs feeding young near Stogursey
After a week of seeing no Swifts, today on my drive I saw 2 flying north? over the A303 near Ilchester. Later I saw about 4 over the A37 nr the Halfway House nr Chilthorne Domer.
