It was remarkable this morning how far down the beach that birdsong from the dunes and reed bed penetrated. Chiffchaff, Willow Warbler, Blackcap, Common and Lesser Whitethroat, Cetti’s Warbler, Reed Warbler and Sedge Warbler could all be heard clearly. I had ventured some distance down the beach to confirm the identity of five Whimbrel that began to look agitated but did not fly off. A Cuckoo flew along the top of the dunes and, when settled in a tree, called constantly for the next ten minutes or so.
Most of the warblers mentioned were seen along the paths that cross the golf course and in the reed bed but, as usual, the Cetti’s Warblers presented the greatest challenge.
A delightful morning’s walk.
