Strange to relate that two male Stonechats also appeared here in Chipstable last week.  The fourth and fifth ever (as far as I’ve seen).  And unprecedented for February.

(Little Owls left in September 2001, sadly.)

Red Kites have been making occasional appearances, in singles, pairs, and an unprecedented foursome.

A single Barn Owl has of late been gracing the fields from about 230pm - just gorgeous.

Kestrels, Buzzards and Sparrowhawks are seen with regularity - though never taken for granted in this over-Pheasanted location.

2 Male Stonechats this morning, Coleford, were the first I have ever seen here.
A nearby pair of Little Owls were vocal.
Kites appear to have, or to be, pairing up and returning to previously known nesting areas.
Goshawks are displaying in suitable habitat across East Somerset.
Peregrines have also been active of late.
Some interesting Barn Owl sightings on the edges of Coleford.
Kestrels, Buzzards and Sparrowhawks are seen with regularity.

Promises to be an interesting breeding season, should Spring ever arrive.
