Also saw one yesterday (Sat 13th May) flying over Black Hill, near Holford Combe, just a few minutes before I saw what I think was the SOS group in the distance.
I saw a Red Kite flying overhead when driving past Flaxpool Garage on the A358, on my way back from the SOS meet at Dead Woman’s Ditch.
Brilliant to watch 2 Red Kite soaring foe 10 minutes over East Barn Challick Lane here in Wiveliscombe after a morning spent in Clatworthy Res woods
Great views of a male Redstart, displaying Goldcrest and good number of Nuthatch , Song and Mistle Thrush Willow Warbler and Chiffchaff in good numbers.
A Grey Wagtail and Common Sandpiper were below the dam with a pair of Swallow frequenting the small bridge there,
Cormorant Canada Geese and Mallard only birds on the water ( no surprise there)
Red Kite seen over Stockmoor last Tuesday and one seen yesterday.
Over the last month there has been sightings of a pair of, what I thought were, Buzzards, regularly sailing around here but at a fair height. Yesterday, one drifted slowly overhead, at only 30 feet or so. It had at least 2 1/2 feet wingspan and I notice the long forked tail and superb under wing markings. It then banked slowly and turned and then I noticed the tail was coloured red. It was a breath-taking sight. Hope I get to see it again…PS. Thanks for letting me join this group 😊
