I saw at least 20 Cattle Egrets in total in various fields between Godney and Westhay Moor yesterday.
Just more spread out than last year then!
24 + on Hay Moor near Langport this past week.
12 seen this morning at Beer below Turn Hill.
They have been thin on the ground for the last week. The last place I saw some was on the field of root crop between Westhay Moor and Godney. Not many cattle out at the moment so they may have moved away for a while. They might also be on West Sedgemoor as we approach the nesting season.
Last winter I couldn’t move for cattle egrets, this year I have still yet to see one (plenty of littles in fields) - haven’t been specifically searching though
Hello, yes there are still plenty of Cattle Egrets around the Westhay area. I saw 7 on Honeygar Lane yesterday and there are usually some beside the B3151 between Westhay and Wedmore and along the lane to the north of Westhay Moor reserve. Burtle to Catcott road is another likely place. Many of them go to roost in either Canada Farm Lake or Noah’s Lake.
Thanks Martin very much appreciated
