A day around the moors, combes and woods produced :
Dunkery Hill (north side) - 2 Whinchats (pair), 3 Stonechats, 2 Cuckoos ( a further bird calling at Dunkery Gate early evening), 1 Gropper reeling briefly, 4 Swallows, Green Woodpecker calling from valley, a handful of Swallows plus the usual Skylarks & Mipits.
Chetsford Water - 2 Whinchats, 2 Stonechats, 4 Buzzards, 2 Grey Wagtails, 2 Redstarts, 2 Swallows, 2 Ravens, & plenty of “fly-catching” Willow Warblers.
Horner Wood from Pool Bridge - 2 Dippers at nest site (young not yet fledged), 2 Grey Wagtails, c.10 Pied Flycatchers (a pleasure to meet Denise Wawman who was surveying the nest boxes), 1 Treecreeper, 4 Mistle Thrushes also good nos of Willow Warblers & Blackcaps. However there were no Wood Warblers evident.
Good to see that Pied Flycatchers are thriving but seemingly the downturn in species such as Whinchat & Wood Warbler shows no signs of abating.
