6 or 8 mandarin on river along Iron Mills Lane, with big flock of mallard (& a stock dove). Also quite a lot of redwing, plus a pair of grey wagtail nearer town.

Saw more fieldfare along the Mells river on Monday.

Circular walk from Spring Gardens via Old Ford and Orchardleigh this afternoon.  1 Green Sand, 1 redhead Goosander, 2 Dipper, minimum 60, probably 70 Mandarin Ducks (might be a Somerset record??); 4 fluffy Great Crested Grebe chicks and 4 fluffy Coot chicks must surely be second brood; and a puzzling Peregrine photographed, very brown, but with yellow cere, barred breast feathers and blue tail, presumably juvenile with some adult characteristics; caused some discussion in our excellent local Frome Birders Whatsapp group!
