If at first you don’t succeed! After finding the YBW at Greylake yesterday, I made my fourth visit to Ashcott Corner in the last 6 days and was finally rewarded with good views of Whoopers and an Egyptian Goose on Noah’s and a Firecrest in the Yew tree between the 2 Ashcott Corner car parks. Also 3 Bullfinches near the Shapwick car park.

Again, I didn’t get there, as spent another 2 hrs looking, without success, for the Firecrest in the long copse of ivy covered trees between Ham Wall car park and the main track. The 2 adult Whoopers were again reported today on Noah’s Lake. My only success was a fly-over male Bullfinch.

I didn’t get there, as spent 2.5 hrs looking, without success, for the Firecrest in the long copse of ivy covered trees between Ham Wall car park and the main track - where it was apparently seen twice while I was in the wrong position. The 2 adult Whoopers were seen today in the far SW corner of Noah’s Lake.
I spent 15 minutes in Noahs hide this morning and also checked from the railway line but no sign of Whoopers today. I did have 2 very good sightings of Bitterns from the hide. One just flew round but the other was sunning itself on the edge of a reedbed between the hide and the tin shed. Very large numbers of Wigeon.

Met a lady-birder around mid-day at Ashcott Corner, Shapwick Heath NNR, who had just seen 2 Whooper Swans on Noah’s Lake.
Didn’t go there myself as with Kay who’s having problems and couldn’t walk that far.
