I started the day with a northerly wind giving hope of new arrivals and I was not disappointed. Firstly at Catcott Lows at 8.30 there were 5 Whoopers in front of the hide and 3 female Pintail among the growing numbers of ducks there. Two GWE but no Cattle Egrets there today. One Sparrowhawk, Buzzard and Kestrel in attendance. The Swans left at 9.00 and initially headed towards Shapwick Heath but then turned south so they could be on the moors south of the Poldens,
From 9.45-11.15 I was at Otterhampton marshes where I met 2 birders from Bristol and between us we found: 1 female Merlin, 1 Spoonbill, 5 Greenshank, 3 Spotted Redshank, 1 Ruff, plus good numbers of Knot, Redshank, Golden Plover and Dunlin. The usual Duck species also there. Numbers of Black headed Gulls were as big as I can ever remember. Certainly 500+
