Together with Paul Clement, went looking for a Lesser Spot in the Quantocks this pm, as the weather was forecast for still and sunny conditions - and of course with a leafless canopy at this time of the year you always hope the birds will be easier to find.  Very fortunate to come across a male feeding above us in the canopy - gave excellent views for some 15 mins or so. It drummed, called and fed above us, at times down to 20 feet or so. It was joined by another bird towards the end of the period we spent watching.  Probably the best, prolonged views I’ve had of the species in 40 years of birding.

Won’t disclose anymore detail of where we were in the Quantocks as I suspect the birds were prospecting suitable nest sites.
