Work commenced this morning on a second, hopefully permanent, area of standing water on Catcott Lows.
It is located between the ‘under used’ Hide , (from where it will be able to be viewed,) that’s the one accessed off Lower Ropes Drove and is between there and the centre ditch, that’s the ditch that runs diagonally, eastward from the pump house (that’s to the left of the car park hide) to the far ( eastern end) of the reserve where the ” Stockade’ i.e. a three way set of gates can be seen.
The first bird to take advantage of the spoil heaps being created was a Grey Heron which landed on one of them. The work is far enough away from the main hide overlooking the existing pool not to have much effect on anything using it.
