Today is the Second consecutive week a singing skylark has been present on my patch, and this week 2 others appeared in an adjacent field, 1 appearing to chase the other from the field. Should the singing Male attract a mate it’s unlikely to breed successfully as the field will be cut for silage in the coming weeks. This is the first summer for many years I’ve recorded skylarks on my patch.
The other highlight of the morning was a Spotted Flycatcher feeding amongst Alders along the stream. This is a bird on passage but in which direction is the question.
As the season progresses numbers of residents seen and heard have declined, such as the Robin, as they enter their moult and keep a low profile.
All things considered it’s been a good morning.
