Rather disappointing to see that there are no updates on this thread, as it would have been great to read about progress of this bird.

I’ve enjoyed many evenings watching the 3 birds (2 adults and 1 Juvenile) in some great light. The juvenile is close to catching pigeons and seems to enjoy the attention. Although in reality his chances are rather slim from a standing start, the quickest I’ve seen the Falcon return is 90sec, the pigeon was still alive but might have been dropped to her by the Tiercel. Loads of good view points around the area, but best not to stand in the Churchyard as the view is too restricted.

The only thing that I have not seen is an adult bringing in food for the Juvenile. The juvenile seem to live off scraps, so if anyone sees a food pass PLEASE post an update.

Also it is great to see the interest from the public, many of whom had no idea that these beautiful birds were in the town

For those not aware, Taunton’s Peregrine “Rod” fledged successfully on 20th July although he was mobbed by the local gulls have landed in the Churchyard trees, Stephen Hembery was there to watch his first flight. I watched him later in the day, hopping around the tower walls but there was no sign of another flight or food coming in. I went back on the Saturday morning with Mike and Chris and we watched the Juvenile for a few hours. He had flown back to the Tower from the East around 9am and had been spotted on the ground at St James’s around 7:45 and in Middle Street a bit later.

So tonight (Friday 27th) I popped back this evening to find the Juvenile screaming away, although he does appear to have a quiet voice, and the Falcon looking down on him. On the ground was a freshly killed pigeon with it’s breast and head missing. So I can only guess that for some reason the pigeon was dropped.  The juvenile made a number of short flights around the tower and even had a go at gull or two. The Falcon went off and was back within 5mins with another pigeon. The juvenile bird chased the falcon around the tower and tried to rob the adult when it landed but got driven off. The juvenile tried 2 or 3 times to get the pigeon and must have been successful with a few bits. Eventually the Falcon flew off, with the remains of the pigeon, being chased by “Rod”, but went behind the tower. I found the Female, no sign of the pigeon or Rod but the Tiercel appeared.

Hopefully anyone going to watch the Peregrines will post an update here or

so that we can all see what happens over the next few weeks.
