Lows 90% frozen over today but still 100+ duck on the small area that was open.

The Lows water surface was around 50% frozen over at mid day, despite this there were still several hundred duck still present

55 Pintail on the reserve this afternoon were the only things of note. spent a very quiet 90 minutes waiting for something to happen. It didn’t!

(1030-1430).  Two Common Cranes flew S.East over the Lows at 1030 this morning. Later a Red kite in superb condition flew around for 1/2 an hour just off the reserve to the N.E before heading away over Canada Farm Lake. A pair of well marked adult Marsh Harriers were present at the same time as were 4 Buzzards all up high and apparently enjoying the sunshine. Three Black Tailed Godwits were hidden among the 500 or so duck. The Chiloe Wigeon was apparently present earlier although i didn’t manage to see it.
