Hi all
Taunton Hawfinches:
Yesterday (27th) at 9.15-9.45am there were two Hawfinch at the top of the huge beech trees on the west side of Belmont Drive in Taunton, viewed from beneath the trees in Angela Close. They then came down and perched in birches at the entrance to Angela Close (off Parkfield Drive) before flying into yews beneath the large beech trees. Also, my Dad saw two birds at 10am this morning (28th) which were highly likely to be two Hawfinch, flying around the same beech trees.
Other sightings:
Ham Wall RSPB - Firecrest in the NW corner of the car park (by the boardwalk ramp) at 1015
Shapwick Heath NNR - Ring-necked Duck, drake on Noah’s Lake very close to the main track about half way along the northern side of the lake, associating with a small Tufted flock. Also 2 Whooper Swan and an otter (from the hide).
Thurloxton - Merlin (male) in flight over fields at the junction between Whiteleaze Lane and Boez Lane at 1400.
Fyne Court/Broomfield - Hawfinch, single flew off and south from the trees behind Fyne Court cottages.
All the best
Hugh
