We arrived at St Michael’s Churchyard at 11.30. Lots of activity by common garden birds (e.g. several chaffinches and greenfinches, 2 goldcrests), but only two one-second glimpses of a hawfinch flying between yews in the first half hour. Then our luck changed when at least 3 flew into the tall beech by the wall, giving clear if distant views for 10 minutes.
