Song Thrush & Mistle Thrush singing in Chipstable ceased on 12th July and recommenced on 20th December, corresponding with a sharp increase in air temperature (as well as the Solstice).  That’s a common pattern round here.  Expecting them to quieten if the temperature drops again.  But then again, January is nearly here, which often brings Mistle Thrush song here (much less Song Thrush).

Otherwise, Redwing song was a joy on 3rd & 20th; joined with Starling on 3rd, which is unprecedented here.  And plenty of Greenfinch and Goldfinch song since early December, which is also unusual for the month.

Festive greetings everyone…

Not sure whether to call it early or late but I have had a Song Thrush singing in my garden on 22,23 and 24 December and yesterday afternoon on a family visit to Tyntesfield, there was a Mistle Thrush singing near the car park. Is it just the milder weather or do they sense the lengthening days already?  Has anyone heard other species doing the same?
