Amazing views this morning of a large Peregrine trying to take a Little Egret in flight. A small flock of about 6 Egrets flew over the Island hIde at Westhay around 8:10 followed by the Peregrine trying to grab one of the birds. The Peregrine wasn’t in a normal stoop and was appearing to trying to catch one. The Egrets gave as good as they got and the Peregrine had to back off each time. Eventually they all dropped below the tree line so I am not sure what the final outcome was. I was surprised how big this raptor was and I’m fairly sure it was more than capable of bringing down an Egret. A great start to what looks like being a wet day.
