2 male and 1 female Pintail on the lake today also of note were three flocks of winter thrushes flying ove mostly Redwing, one of around 100 birds.Otherwise very quiet with no significant change from last week.
A quiet day but the highlight was a party of 9 Swallows heading S.East that flew past close to the hide late morning. Otherwise 3 Marsh harriers and two bittern flybys while I was there between 1030 and 1430. No real change in the duck population over the last 11 days ( see Sat. 14 Oct. post)
17 Little Grebe together in a ? flock this morning
Hi, Alison. Great record. Did you consider American Black Tern? Smudgy dark breast ‘peg’ merging in to grey washed flanks perhaps the best feature for a juv… (as opposed to neat dark/black peg and clean white flanks for Euro Black)
A Black Tern was dropped into in Noahs Lake for a while yesterday afternoon.
A juvenile Gannet (this years model) arrived on Noah’s Lake at 1100 hrs sat and rested then flew around on and off for an hour, leaving around mid-day heading north west presumably a victim of yesterday’s storm, hopefully it made it back to the estuary. Otherwise no change as far as I can see from Saturday’s birds.
The new Noah’s hide is now open as is the replacement for the 70 Acres blind. Both beautifully built. From Noah’s 250 Wigeon 100 Gadwall a few Shoveller a few Mallard . Greylags Canadas and Mute Swans.only diving ducks were a few Tufted Duck.Great Crested Grebes and 2 little Grebes. 2 Marsh harriers and two Bitterns landed nearby
