Someone posted on Facebook that they’d found a Lapwing in their Taunton garden yesterday. My daughter told them to contact Secret World. It is still alive, indoors in a box, this morning and Secret World are going to attempt to collect it today.

An unusual garden visitor today in my garden in Bishop’s Hull.  A single but tired looking Lapwing, first seen on Bishop’s Hull playing field and then in my garden.  Photograph taken in the snow. After about half an hour of inactivity, the bird flew off.

Another cracking morning watching some cold weather movement from the fields north of West Coker. Small flocks of winter thrushes were pretty much constant between 07.45 - 09.30, with Fieldfare by far the most numerous (roughly 80-20 Fieldfare to Redwing). Over quite a wide front lapwing movement again appeared fairly constant, ranging from ones and twos, to small groups usually made up of between 15 and 40 birds. Small numbers of Golden Plover were on the move as well. Although good numbers passed over head, it was clear there was a steady stream, (particularly of winter thrushes) moving over the Brymptom D’Evercy & Odcombe area. Wonderful light to watch such an impressive movement of birds.

I wasn’t watching thoroughly, but 3 small groups of lapwing passed west over Wellington between 8 and 11 this morning.

Crewkerne: No concerted watch, but I kept looking out through the morning and saw almost nothing. Late morning I saw about 20 Lapwing going SW.

Was lucky enough to witness large numbers of Lapwing moving south/south west this morning. A few small groups of Golden Plover went over too, as well as numerous pulses of winter thrushes, the majority of which were Fieldfare. They appeared to moving over quite a wide front, appearing above Yeovil over West Coker/Brympton D’evercy & Odcombe areas. Although visability was not great at times, every time I panned across the horizon I was picking up small groups of birds, often quickly lost to view again depending on weather conditions. However, several hundreds of birds passed directly over head. Who knows what I missed in the hours before I started watching/scanning. I assumed this was a county wide event, but looking at various tweets maybe not? Given the time I was out, the numbers of distant birds seen, and the fact I must surely have missed at least half of the birds as I was not always scanning, there must surely have been thousand(s) of birds involved? Anyone else see anything similiar?
