Caught one in a rabbit trap at Five Bells in September last year.
One running from one hedge to another in Spaxton last October.
I found a dead polecat on the A371 at Dulcote (near Wells, back in January.
Gerry,
I encountered one in 2014 crossing the road late at night on the Shepton - Frome road. My old land lady also showed me some astonishing footage she had taken on her mobile in broad daylight of x2 polecats running towards her in a field near her home just outside of Wincanton so it would seem they are present within the eastern parts of the county, I understand they are also doing well in Devon/Cornwall now too.
There was a road kill Polecat at the entrance to RSPB Swell Wood recently
Not about birds I know but ... On Sunday I was driving from the Redlands estate in Glastonbury out towards Butleigh, I hadn’t got too far when I saw a dead animal in the road which I didn’t immediately recognise. I stopped the car and took a look - it was a Polecat - the first I’ve ever seen in the wild! Are they seen very often in Somerset these days? I know they’re making a strong comeback in the UK generally.
