It is interesting to look at the ratio of adult to juvenile birds captured during the four month period in three of the species mentioned. This gives some indication of how successful the breeding season was for those species.
Adult Juvenile
Chiffchaff 9 52
Whitethroat 18 46
Blackcap 68 81
From these figures it would appear that Chiffchaffs were very successful and that Blackcaps had a very poor year.
The following species were ringed in the garden, classified as dry scrub when previously operated as a Constant Effort Site, since April.
1 Tree Pipit, 6 Redstart, 1 Sedge Warbler, 2 Reed Warbler, 64 Common Whitethroat, 2 Garden Warbler, 137 Blackcap, 60 Chiffchaff, 10 Willow Warbler and 5 Spotted Flycatcher.
In addition there were 7 Blackcaps and one Chiffchaff returning from previous years.
