There are several blocks of land alongside London Drove in Westhay Moor that do not and never have been part of the Somerset Wildlife Trust reserve. These include the private fishing lake opposite the path coming across from Daggs Lane drove, the peat diggings on the east side that you mention and the block on the west of the drove where the Firecrests have been seen which is indicated by a “private” sign and a length of plastic fence. The owners of these areas are free to use the land as they wish.
Was dismayed to see a new Peat works being dug out right in the middle of Westhay reserve. Surely a big digger ripping up the foliage is not in the spirit of a nature reserve?
In addition I wonder how London Drove will cope with the large vehicles driving up and down it?
I cant help but think that the disturbance will certainly be very damaging to the wildlife there?
