Just seen this thread and noticed this question from Jeff “Why is it that some members don’t bother to post their sighting on this forum?

Answer : Although I try to post as often as possible, In my case it is simply a matter of speed or available time as I like to include a photograph or two.

When using Twitter I can report a sighting and add a low res/quality image in a few minutes. This can be all done while out in the field, hide or wherever.

To post the same on here, I have to first create a high quality image for my Flickr site, add all the metadata including a description, location etc etc, and then upload to Flickr. Then on this web page I can write up the sightings, cut and paste a link from Flickr and then submit the post. This has to be done at home probably in the evenings. This whole process takes longer than a few minutes.

Hope that makes sense.

However I am extremely grateful for those that do post as I work during the week and the sightings page helps me to keep updated with what is currently around the area so many thanks for those that do post.

Perhaps, before you close the thread then Rob, you might consider inviting some of your fellow SOS committee members to contribute more to this sightings forum at your next committee meeting.

For info, I “posted/Tweeted” the Durleigh Res Wood Sand at 11:30 on Twitter when I and another SOS member found it. Even before we left the lay-by the 1st birder had turned up, no doubt alerted by Twitter - such is the instant nature of Twitter which you can set to alert you on your smart-phones’ screen.

I suspect my post will lead to you closing this thread - so be it. In December 2015 you personally posted that you hoped more members would post Twitter sightings to @Somersetbirds !

No, Ash. I was just trying to reinforce Jeff’s comment about posts in ‘Latest Sightings’. Twitter is best discussed elsewhere!

I will close the thread if it ends up being a debate.

Is this now open for discussion in this part of the forum Rob ? Previously it was relegated to the obscure and little looked at “Forum and Website Guidelines” part - “Twitter Feed discussion”.

I totally agree, Jeff.

This forum potentially gives a good summary of sightings in the county and probably much easier to access than trawling though lots of Tweets. There’s also a lot of people who don’t or won’t access Twitter.

So, Somerset birders, pleas keep posting here!

Why is it that some members don’t bother to post their sighting on this forum?  Seemingly preferring to just add @somersetbirds after their Twitter tweet and leaving it at that. I’m sure lots of members who use this forum would like to see your bird sightings!!
