This is a good time to announce that there will be an article on colour-ringed Great White Egrets in Somerset in the new edition of The BIttern, due to be published very soon.
On Friday 10 Sept. Andrew Kirby and I saw a G. W. Egret on Tealham Moor wearing a White colour ring with black legend K367. I checked with the ringers in Belarus and itis one of theirs.
Ringed on 16 May 2020 at 52.600N 25.1667E Rectitsa Byarroza Disrict Belarus. that’s 1925 Km from sighting point and this is the first sighting since it was ringed.
When I reported this sighting I was told by the ringers that there is a second of theeir birds from the same rining site that has been seen in Somerset at Bawdrip , Stawell and Ham Wall it has ben around since27 Nov. 2020 ( Bawdrip) and last seen Ham Wall 21st July 2021 ring no. K387.
Worrying that they were similar numbers so photos of Both have been checked and yes they are different birds!
Says it was rung in Germany, but think that’s a mistake, as project is definitely Belarus:
On Friday 27 November a ringed Great White Egret was observed in Somerset.
Records show that it was ringed in May this year as a ‘Pullus’ (young bird) in Belarus
