A car was broken into at around 1200 at RSPB Greylake yesterday (2 October). Rear door window smashed. Nothing was taken as the owners has been careful to remove all valuables. The couple whose car it was said that their’s was the only one in the car park when they left and that they had only been gone for around 30 minutes.
It clearly pays to be careful but I don’t know what, if anything, can be done other than staying with the car which rather defeats the object of going, doesn’t it?
There are reports on Twitter of another break-in yesterday, this time in Shapwick car park. Please be vigilant and report any incidents to the police.
Could I please emphasis that - do report any incidents to the police. My car was broken into at Canada Farm two years ago and we know that there were other break-ins which owners didn’t bother to report. Please don’t take the view that there’s no point - every report helps the police, even if nothing was taken. And in my case I did eventually get some of my stuff back.
Avalon Marshes have Tweeted that there were car break-ins at the car parks at Westhay Moor, Shapwick and the pull-in at Canada Farm last weekend. Make sure you take valuables with you, leave nothing in view and report any incidents to the police.
