Purple heron sitting out in the open on the far side of Noah’s Lake. Seen at 6.30am through to 8.30 when it flew up behind the large bushes to the right of the hide, then flew back to the far side of the lake and over the trees towards Decoy Lake.
Purple heron sat in top of tall bushes between Noahs hide and tin shed overlooking channel where it was spotted Tuesday morning. Was there about a hour from 10:30 then flew of towards NW corner.
Purple Heron still, far NW cnr of Lake looking from Noah’s Hide up wide channel to right of tin hut, against furthest reeds. Located by my wife Kay at 11:25 after we had been their since 07:45. Still present, but had walked back into the reeds and out of view, when we left the hide at 12:30.
Purple Heron sat high up in a bush on the back edge of Noah’s for a couple of hours this Mon. morning. 100M left of the tin shed! Dropped down out of sight around 1015.
No sign of the Purple Heron on Noah’s Lake between 09:30 and 13:30 today.
An Otter swam across in front of Noah’s Hide and we saw 3 Bitterns, one of which perched up in the open at the base of a small tree, a small party of Bearded Tits showed briefly in front of the hide, also a Hobby, and a total of 10 Grt W Egrets between here and adjoining Meare Heath.
An adult Purple Heron was perched up on an exposed branch between 7.30 and 8.40 at the back of Noah’s Lake this morning. It did some ninja sunbathing and some preening, but eventually dropped down to the right/north somewhere at the back behind the tin hut. I walked round but couldn’t refind it.
No Blackwits at all on Shapwick or Ham Wall this am - a few were at 2VP last Sunday.
Beardies heard at 2VP today.
I saw a Purple Heron this morning over Meare Heath flying towards Ham Wall.
Purple Heron also seen in flight over Ham Wall at about the same time flying east lost from view near VP2
After many years of failing I finally added Purple Heron to my Somerset list today with good flight views of one which flew from the back of Noah’s Lake towards Meare Heath. The time was approaching 6pm, I think!
