Not sure that I’ve seen the nesting Rooks covered in snow before. Image here….....

While a good number of tetrads have been allocated for surveying, there are still many more yet to be allocated.

So far only about 25% have been allocated, with a bias towards those tetrads which are known to contain rookeries. For a survey to be meaningful, it’s important to get negative as well as positive feedback.

When you think about it, if you know a tetrad near you contains no rookery, then this is a very easy way of surveying! So please have a go at taking on such tetrads if you can.

The start of the survey period is almost upon us and there are still plenty of unallocated tetrads.

We’ve now added to the Surveys page of the website - https://somersetbirding.org.uk/surveys   - a document listing tetrads in which Rookeries were located in 2021 but had not yet been allocated in the new survey.

A reminder that this survey will take place from 1st March to the end of April this year, so we are seeking volunteers to survey squares.

Don’t worry if you don’t know of any rookeries locally - negative data is still very useful.
