Have you ever wondered which bird is which and want to learn more? Can you tell your bittern from your blackbird, or your marsh harrier from a mallard? If not then this is the event for you. Come along and learn how to identify some of the brilliant birds that call Ham Wall their home during the winter months.
Suitable for children age 12+ (all children must be accompanied by an adult)
Price: £4.80 RSPB member / £6 non-member / £2.40 RSPB child member / £3 child non-member

Time for some new optics?  Head down to our Ham Wall nature reserve to meet our friendly experts for advice and to try a few optics out!
Knowledgeable experts from the RSPB Shop in Darts Farm Exeter will be on site to guide you through our range of binoculars, telescopes, tripods and accessories. Just drop in any time between 10.00 am-3.00 pm. We would love to see you! (Cash and card payments accepted).
There will also be a range of seasonal items from the shop available to purchase on the day, such as bird feeders, bird food, cards, wrapping paper, diaries and calendar's. If you would like to know what additional items will be brought, or to request any specific items, please contact the shop directly on: 01392 879438 - ask to chat to Ellie Woolway (Events and Sales Co-Coordinator).
The optics demonstration day will be held in the Ham Wall Welcome Centre, in the reserve's car park, BA6 9SX.

From the A303, take the A388 turning signposted for Tidworth/Marlborough/Salisbury. Travel south (Salisbury/Cholderton direction) and about a mile south of Cholderton is the first of three left turns into Newton Tony. Continue through the village, turn right at the Allington sign into Station Hill (village hall opposite, school on left). The reserve car park is on the right at brow of hill.

We will walk around the reserve in the morning and with luck we may see stone curlew. We will stop off at Langford Lakes, just off the A303, on the return journey.

On 03 September 2019, Bristol Zoo is hosting a series of talks leading experts working across the globe to tackle threats to bird species!. In addition to the oral presentations by invited speakers, they invite the submission of abstracts for posters to be presented at the symposium. There will also be a complimentary evening event at the Bristol Museum and Art Gallery, as well as a 30 minute VIP Behind-the-Scenes Tour to look at the Museum’s unique collection of extinct birds (few spaces left).
