A second of the two Great White Egret Chicks,( this one colour ringed AAH ) hatched this year on Ham Wall has been sighted at Dungeness this weekend, its sibling also in Kent may not be far away
Have any numbers been released for breeding egrets on other parts of the Marshes, or do the Ham Wall figures include these? (Or were there no nests?)
Early afternoon on Noah’s Lake, a total of six Cattle Egrets ; 3 adults ( ginger models) plus 3 of this years youngsters( Black Beaks and Black feet ). all six had double chins, Also present were 3 Great Whites and two Little Egrets.
One of the Great White Egret Chicks, colour ringed AAJ hatched this year on Ham Wall has been sighted at Sandwich Bay Kent yesterday 18 July. it was photographed as recently as 10th. July on Ham Wall.
No less than 7 Cattle Egrets feeding among cattle beside the B 3151 where it crosses the North Drain between Westhay and Wedmore at 08.00 this morning.
Great news and a reward for the hard walk done in Ham Wall by staff and by the “watchers” It will be interesting to see how much dispersal there is from this colony over the next 12 months.

Ham Wall RSPB have just announced that 9 juv Cattle Egrets have fledged from 5 nests, and 17 juv Great White Egrets have fledged from 7 nests.
Brilliant news on these rare British breeding birds.
